Looking for your dreamed Ford Mustang?
With the advent of the Ford Mustang in the middle of 1964 there was a country wide sensation.
This was naturally thanks to the nature of the automobile design however the method in which the media was handled and the selling blitz that occurred before, during, and after the official launch. A big turnout in positive paper reviews and an appearance as the Official Pace Vehicle of the 1964 Indianapolis 5 hundred joined with a tasty price of almost $2,300 launched the Mustang into the Yankee automotive limelight. The Mustang was produced to challenge in the rising muscle automobile segment at the time. Even though it's the main competition the 1960's were such autos as General Motors Camaro and Chryslers Barracuda the Ford Mustang is the only muscle auto from that time which has seen a regular production run. 1965 was the 1st full official year of production of the Mustang. As well as the first Coupe design several variations on this model were available on the 1965 Mustang.
As an example Ford introduced a Fastback model for the Mustang that year to enlarge the present hardtop coupe and the convertible. 2 famous variations on the Mustang appeared in 1965 too. The famed Shelby Mustang first appeared at this time. A Shelby Mustang in 1956 was a Fastback model with no back seat. The spare tire was located in the back in the area of the back window and the gas tank flap had the Mustang icon on it. They also added some more power to the 289 engine getting it to a 306.
The second variation was the 1965 Mustang GT introduced in Second-quarter of that year and at a price a further $165! The GT option was available on the coupe, convertible or fastback models and came with some variations of its own. As for the power train there had been a choice between a 225 h.p. or a 271 hp V-8 engine. All GT packages came with an upgraded instrument group, striping on the lower part of the body sides. Finished out with andquot;GTandquot; badges on the front fenders, enormous mist lights mounted within the front griddle and a twin exhaust the 1965 Mustang GT actually stood out! Whilst the Shelby and GT packages got a ton of attention during 1965 the coupe body style was what actually sold. The Ford Motor Company had first predicted sales of the 1965 Mustang to be some where round the 100,000 and let's just say they sold some more than that! Whilst this early Mustang earned wide commend and many recognitions maybe the most remarkable is the Tiffany Medal and the 1965 Mustang was the first auto ever to win this award. This Mustang remains a real fave in the eyes of casual fans and collectors alike. With the appearance of many Mustang orientated auto clubs, an overall increasing interest in classic vehicles and the growing population of Auto Auctions on TV the 1965 Mustang is certain to remain an Yank icon for generations to come.
