What Car Semiannual Adjustments Are Required?

Article Written By: taamiv

A car has several parts. Some just enjoy the ride while others work hard. The hard working parts need to be adjusted after some time, an average time is after six months or 6000 miles. After the car s tires roll for many months or thousands of miles, they need to be adjusted. Other adjustments include brakes and linkage.

The oil filter needs to be changed when the oil is changed. The owner s manual tells how much is needed. Oil containers typically have marks that indicate milliliters or ounces.

For replacing the oil and filter of your car, follow this simple guide:

First, make sure that the car is parked at a level place. Start the car and let it run for about 15 minutes for warm up. Warm oil brings more built sludge with it and drains more thoroughly.

In the mean time, the required tools can be gathered like wrench, oil filter wrench and an oil-draining pan. Turn off the engine, wait for five minutes and then start the work. Place the drain pan beneath the oil pan plug. If needed, jack up the car. Use a wrench to loosen the plug. An oil siphon can be used to catch oil from the oil pan through dipstick tube without crawling under the car.

After all the oil has been drained into the pan, reinstall the oil plug and tighten it with a wrench. This is an important step and must not be forgotten. Move the pan under the oil filter. If needed, jack up the car. The bottom of the car is hot so be careful while working. Use an oil filter wrench for twisting the filter, oil will start dripping to the pan. Rotate the oil filter with hand until it comes off from the shaft. Now tilt the filter so the oil will drain into the pan. The new oil filter should be of the same size as of the old one.

Open the new oil can, get some on the finger and spread it around the rubber seal at the end of the new oil filter. Then place the new oil filter on filter shaft and turn it. Tighten it by hand only after the gasket contacts with the filter holder. Now the oil can be replaced, locate the oil filter and use a funnel to pour the oil, then recheck the oil and make sure it is between FULL and ADD marks. Now securely put back the oil filler cap.

For adjusting the throttle linkage on the car, follow this simple guide:

Open the car s hood and locate the throttle linkage system which consists of cables, springs, metal plates and rods. The air filter would have to be removed to see all of it. Start at the firewall, make sure all parts are fastened securely. Any loose bolts should be tightened.

Don t move the throttle linkage because it will put fuel in the carburetor and will make the car difficult to start. Spray the linkage joints with cleaning lubricant. Disconnect the linkage end from the side of the carburetor and then move carburetor. Some connections break off, others might need removing a clip. Then move the throttle linkage a small number of times to make sure it works smoothly. Reconnect the linkage when done.
