Upgrading Your Car Stereo

Car owners usually look for ways to upgrade parts or customize the accessories on their vehicles one way or another. People do so by changing engine parts for a smoother and faster ride, tinting your car windows, and especially upgrading your car stereo. Whether you are driving alone or with your friends, it is hard not to drive without listening to music. It helps you to avoid boredom when you are driving those long trips by yourself. Can you imagine what you would feel if you were to drive for an hour or so without your car stereo to listen to? I don't know about you, but I would probably go nuts!

Sometimes changing your car stereo, or head unit, is not enough for people who loves music. They usually have features you can choose from such as a tape player, CD/DVD/MP3 player, and even a USB flash memory slot. After all, there is a large after market industry that exists that can replace most if not all of your factory components. Once you have changed the head unit, you somehow get the urge to keep going. You will then decide to upgrade your speakers by changing it into something that can handle more power.

But if you really want to impress people by how loud you can play your music, then you are also going to need some key components such as amplifiers, crossovers, equalizers, and subwoofers - which is a type of speaker made especially for low frequency reproduction. It may not sound complicated to set up your car's sound system, but there are still some factors that you have to pay close attention to. The most important is the dimension of your car stereo. You have to make sure it fits the stereo case or else it may not be of any use to you. It is also best not to overlook the quality of the products you purchase.

It may cost more than what you are hoping to spend, but its durability and reliability will save you from any complications or problems in the future. A lot of people became so involved in upgrading their stereo systems, there was no doubt setting up your car stereo started audio competitions. Cars that usually joined these competitions have sound systems so loud, that they even violate noise ordinances in certain municipalities. These cars have earned the nickname Boom cars since they emit low frequency sound with an intense amount of bass.

But because these boom cars would play their extremely loud music in public areas and around neighborhoods, numerous organizations have lobbied for tougher restrictions on these boom cars for disturbing the peace and causing documented health problems. One organization has cited these cars as the most problematic source of noise pollution. It became such an issue that the U.S. Department of Justice got involved and issued guidelines to police officers on how to deal with this type of problems.

In my opinion, I really don't see anything wrong with upgrading your sound systems. It's a hobby! I guess it wouldn't hurt to turn the volume down a notch.
