In India,Dance and Music are enriching and humanizing factors in the field of art and culture. Tthey are considered as a celebration of life. Indian dancers and Indian instrumental artists are very popular worldwide.

India has many different cultures within itself. They all have their own history and heritage. The country has given birth to numerous talented and gifted dancers and music artists, from singers to instrumental music specialists.

Dance is a beautiful form of expression that lends wings to your thoughts. Classical, folk or modern, each dance form has many extraordinarily able dancers from India. Earlier, in the old days of the theatre, the dancers would act out the story and the singers would sing along. The act was accompanied by instrumentalists. For many centuries, the Indian dancers were associated with the temples. Hence the dances were deeply religious and spiritual. Even today, most of the classical dancers tell religious and divine tales through their performances. India has various, upbeat folk dances like bhangra and garba which usually enact folk tales.

Kathak, Kuchipudi, Bharatnatyam et al have gained worldwide fame and recognition and dancers from India enjoy a cult status. They have always been in demand for their enchanting performances. The dancers are especially recognized for the many years of training they undergo and for the fact that dance is not just a profession for them. It s a way of life.

Indian instrumental music is extremely popular, even more so than songs with lyrics. It is because of their ability to be understood and accepted by music lovers all over the world. Lyrical songs are popular too but there lies a limitation due to a language barrier.

Hindustani classical music has been a part of the Indian tradition that has evolved from the 12th century. It is said to be the oldest musical culture alive. Its origins go back to the Vedas. Many wonderful instruments are connected with Indian music. The veena, sitar, sarod, santoor, sarangi, bansuri, shehnai are just some of the hugely respected and popular Indian music instruments. Asad Ali Khan, Bismillah Khan, Amjad Ali Khan, Hariprasad Chaurasia, Sultan Khan, Zakir Hussain, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Ravi Shankar, Vilayat Khan and many other illustrious music experts have made a mark on the world music scene with their enchanting talent.
