If the act you book is really good then it will result in a great impression on the guests and they won't even realise it's been cut short! And you can always fill in the rest of the evening by hiring a local dj who could just be a friend of the family with tunes supplied from your i-pod.

There are all kinds of acts available these days for weddings, the more adventuress amongst you may be interested in a fire show or magician, whilst those who like to follow tradition will be happy with dancing and music. Rent a karioke machine – they are great fun and everyone will soon join in after a few drinks!

If you have the finances available then have a few acts booked, a cartoonist or magician circulating the room carrying out magic tricks or sketching funny caricatures of the guests is novel and fun and will give guests a special memento to remember the evening by. Comedians will get everyone laughing, and just imagine how hilarious it would be to have Elvis Presley at your wedding reception! An impersonator of course – but people will love it!

There are various ways you can find a wedding entertainer – either ask around and get advice from friends and colleagues, look in the yellow pages, contact a band or singer you have seen play at another venue and ask them if they are available for weddings, or go online. Online is generally viewed as the quickest and most convenient way to find your evening's entertainment and anyone with any business sense has their own website these days so there is plenty of choice out there.

Use the internet to search, compare, contact and book performers local to you. Some of them will provide an audio or video clip of their show and testimonials by satisfied customers should give you a good insight as to whether they are any good. Contact as many performers as you like before coming to any decision - after all it's your big day and you want it to be extra special.
