Xbox360 The War Of The Gadgets

It's interesting how Microsoft's Xbox 360 would fair up against Nintendo DS. When the Xbox was introduced to the public, it didn't boast much of anything. The DVD optical drive it uses was nothing exceptional, and the premium version only included a hard drive and a wireless game controller.

Because Microsoft intended the Xbox to become an avenue to stream music and movies, it recently upgraded Xbox to include full HD support and 1080p video output. The HD-DVD player costs around $180, however, further upping the cost of the Xbox from $300-$450 to $480-$630, putting it in the range of the more expensive PS3.

Nintendo Wii, on the other hand, has Bluetooth capabilities for wireless controllers and a DVD drive for just $250.00 It does not have a hard drive, however, and playing DVD movies is just not possible. The focus of Wii is not on movies, anyway, but on games.

Wii comes with a remote control that has a sensor that monitors how players move about. It is also compatible with the Nintendo DS. Wii does not have a movie store, but Nintendo has a store online where you can buy games for $5-10 for your game console.

Originally, Microsoft intended the Xbox to compete against the Sony PlayStation. The PlayStation had become very popular during the 1990s that Microsoft feared it would lose a lot of sales in the long run. So about a year after the PS2 was launched, Microsoft came out with the Xbox. Unfortunately, the Xbox couldn t seem to match up with Sony s PS2. Besides being expensive, it suffered from many hardware problems.

To be out in the market sooner than competitors certainly gives one the edge. Sony PS2 did not boast of a wide range of games early on, but since it was available before the Xbox and the GameCube, it was able to establish itself as a leader in the gaming industry, selling over 20 million units by the time the Xbox and GameCube came out. Between the year 2000 and 2006, over 115 million units of PS2 were sold, while there were only 24 millions Xbox units sold and 21 million for GameCube.

As it appears, Microsoft has yet plenty to learn when it comes to consoles. Before investing your hard-earned money with the next generation game consoles, it would be wise to do a research and conduct random reviews of the top gadgets to own.
